"“What we’ve seen is a cottage industry of companies making false promises that they can rescue borrowers,” said Rohit Chopra, the CFPB’s student-loan ombudsman. Chopra said that shortly after the bureau opened in 2011, officials started seeing signs that some of the same tactics companies used to lure mortgage borrowers into scams were showing up in the student loan market."
